Google “Voxel”

Stepping into Google’s newly minted Chicago Headquarters was like stepping into the future. The interiors were flawless, the spaces were thoughtfully designed, and they had this amazing 41-screen video installation built into their lobby, ripe for animation. The team at Banner knew that we would have to over-delivery on this project for this installation to match the impressiveness of the office itself.

We pitched 6 ideas and “Voxel” was selected. It was brainchild of Thomas Jurgensen who created the lion share of the 3D assets and animations. Michael Fernandez led the team and acted as a bit of a generalist, filling in where needed whether it was 2D or 3D. My role was Lead Compositor, and I was in charge of getting this massive screen rendered into the 41 different screens seamlessly. I also timed out the looping animation, handling most of the secondary animations such as cars, characters, the various other easter eggs.

The project was a huge success, granting us the opportunity to produce two more installations that still dawn the Google lobby to this day. Please check out Google “Living Street Art” to take a look at the installation I directed several years later.
