Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP “Snack Brighter”

Working on a project for Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP was a dream come true. I mean, imagine the hero I was when I brought home bags of delicious popcorn to my girlfriend as we were prepping for the shoot. And this was a fun shoot to prep for. I worked on this project while working at Banner, with a team of Mike Dahl, Will Armistead and Ryan Linich, who did a tremendous job on the production. My role was Post Production Director and I oversaw the VFX along with compositing most of the animations.

There was a lot of creativity required to shoot these ads. On the first spot, I brought in my friend Jason Smith, a local fabricator, to create a custom white and green-screen checker board so that we could easily change its color in post. For the second ad, we brought in 3D specialist and former Banner colleague, Thomas Jurgensen, who did a tremendous job getting the popcorn bag to pop and dance. And for the third concept, I imported the composited bag & hands into Cinema 4D to create a realistic flickering shadow.

All the while, we filled our mouths with various flavors of popcorn. One of my favorite things in life is eating good food with good people, so this project was definitely one of the more fun ones.
